Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Proctor.
Hi Abbey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career in the beauty industry almost 25 years ago as a hairdresser. I always loved being a hairdresser, I enjoyed helping people feel better and the relationships I made. About 6 or 7 years ago I started to get curious about skincare, as I was starting to see visible changes with my own skin. I wasn’t sure how I would pursue this as I was working in the salon and had two small children. I put it on the back burner. We ended up moving out of state in 2021. I didn’t start working right away and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to dive into skincare. I enrolled in a course and loved every minute! I was so excited to work for a Med spa, unfortunately it was a lot harder to get in than I had expected. I ended up finding an amazing spot where I shared a room with another esthetician and I was also still able to work on hair clients. Then 2 weeks after being there my husband tells me we may have to move again. I was devastated. Off we went. I held off for a year, but again had submitted my application at several places and crickets. We ended up moving again. I’m now back where I started which is wild. I’m currently renting a skincare room at the back of the very first salon I ever worked at. Right now I’m working on building my clientele. I’m so excited to share what I’ve learned and help individuals with their skin health!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No! lol! Moving has been very challenging. Starting your own business from nothing and trying to make it into something is hard. But also fun and exciting. It’s definitely an emotional roller coaster most days. But I love being in control of my schedule and my own boss.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I give facial treatments with results. So you’re not necessarily just coming in for a relaxing treatment, although it can be, it’s more to help fix what you have going on internally so you can have a beautiful glow externally. All of my treatments are individualized for each person. I’m currently in the process of finishing a certification in gut nutrition. I really want to help people realize that their skin concerns are from what is going on inside. Yes my professional skincare line is amazing and is helpful but you need everything in harmony to see lasting results. It’s like going to the gym but then not eating a healthy diet. I truly care about my clients and want to help them achieve their skincare goals. I’m proud of my willingness to always learn and share that information.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something most people might not know is that I have been doing CrossFit for the last 5 years. My husband and I have our own gym at home and we enjoy working out together. It’s the hardest thing I do both mentally and physically. It makes tackling the day ahead much easier.
